1: Montezuma & Santa Teresa

So, here goes... my first post on my first ever blog. I hope this goes well, I do not expect to have many (if any) readers, I think I will treat this more like a diary.

I don't really know where to start... I have been in Costa Rica for three and a half months now, I can't really believe it. I am not going to go through everything that I have done since I got here, I think I will start from last Thursday:

Last week I had a day off work thanks to the celebration of  Thanksgiving. I therefore decided to go to Montezuma, at the suggestion of a friend who has a car. Montezuma is on the Pacific coast, in the Peninsula de Nicoya (see map)
Montezuma, the Nicoya Peninsula

We left at 3am, in order to catch the 5am ferry from Puntarenas to Paquera, but when we arrived (on time) the ferry was already full. This resulted in us having to wait 4 hours for the next one, scheduled for 9am. We had a bit of a nap in the car, followed by breakfast (Gallo Pinto of course), and finally got on the ferry and across to the other side.

As we were making our way along a very potholey road to Montezuma, we spotted a friend of ours who was trying to hitch a lift! Of course we picked him up and continued on to Montezuma village, which had a lovely relaxed feel to it.

We decided to go and see the Montezuma waterfalls:

And we spent most of the afternoon jumping off the rocks into the waterfall and we even climbed behind the waterfall and jumped in through it! Scary but a lot of fun...
The plan was to climb up to the second set of waterfalls, which we started to do - but after a while climbing with no waterfall in sight, we realised that we had gone wrong and never saw the second waterfall (there is my reason to go back!). Instead we arrived at a very empty field at the top of the very steep slope and had (another) little nap. It would seem that jumping into waterfalls is quite exhausting.

From there we made our way back to Montezuma and then headed to Santa Teresa, another beach a few kilometres away. By the time we got there it was dark so we decided to go for some food and check in to a hostel.

The next morning the guys got up nice and early (6am to be precise) to go surfing, however I decided to catch up on some sleep since the waves were a bit to big for me to make my surfing debut - hopefully though it will happen this year! We then went up to Manzanillo beach (see below) for the rest of the afternoon which was lovely and empty before leaving and making our way back to Paquera to catch the ferry back.

So, there we have it! I think this post was a bit boring actually. Let me know what you think. Overall, here is my impression of Montezuma, Santa Teresa and Manzanillo beaches: of course, as you can tell, they were lovely, but I still think my favourite so far is Manuel Antonio. It seems that Santa Teresa may be better for the surfing type, with an abundance of surfing shops and cool-looking "dudes". I did have a wonderful time though, again it was so nice to be out of the city!

Will try and keep this updated from now on. Feedback is always welcome, if it'll make my stuff more interesting to read for you ;)
